Injury Treatment

Sports massage can be used to treat many sporting injuries. A wide range of techniques will be used to ease pain, improve mobility, speed up recovery and get you back to sport. If you suspect you have a more severe injury, it is recommended that you have an assessment with a doctor first, to provide a diagnosis and advise on best treatment options.

Pre-Event Massage

The aim of a pre-event sports massage is to invigorate and prepare you for your training, competition or sporting event. It is a fast paced but light massage designed to increase blood flow to muscles by using tapotement techniques such as hacking, cupping and pounding. This will ensure that your muscles are relaxed and flexible.

A pre-event massage also helps to mentally prepare you for performance by relieving stress and calming your nerves before an important competition or race. High levels of stress and anxiety can be detrimental to your performance as it can cause increased muscle tone which reduces flexibility. Therefore, massage can be extremely beneficial before exercise as it will increase your range of movement and relieve tension for optimum performance.

Maintenance Massage

This type of massage takes place between training sessions and the aim is to work on specific tissues which have become shortened, tight or painful. By removing these restrictions, your performance will be enhanced and pain free.

A variety of methods will be used including; Deep Frictions, Trigger Pointing, Kneading, Compressions, Myofascial Release and Muscle Energy Techniques. A helpful addition to any training program.

Post Event Massage

The aim of a post-event sports massage is to calm the muscles down after activity, remove metabolic waste & prevent injury. It is a relaxing massage which includes light, pressured techniques including; effleurage, petrissage, kneading, picking up and passive stretching.

These light techniques help the muscles return to normal resting length and prevents delayed onset muscle soreness, fatigue, soreness & cramp.

After exercise, your muscles can become tight due to overtraining and tightness could indicate microscopic tears of the muscle fibres as a result of activity. An increase of tight muscles could lead to injuries such as muscle strains & tears. Post event massage will help to increase blood flow to tissues which will prevent injuries and help to promote recovery after exercise and remove metabolic waste.
